Me, Too

Deaf?  Why yes, thank you.

(You and me both, Mojourner.)  And I went on to marry that 80s hair band musician, too!  Even earplugs could only help me so much, given our family and hearing ...

The BBC gives (or certainly used to) hearing tests to everyone who joins its technical side. They've filed the results and this gives a sample of hearing levels running back decades. And, yes, young people are getting deafer.

I like loud music but, even when I was a lot younger, I tried to avoid standing so close to the speakers that my ears rang by the end of the night.

It's sad. My father was profoundly deaf (genes, not environment) and it's not a great place to be. A little bit of basic aural hygiene when you're young can save years of 'Eh? What did you say?' when you're older.

Sorry to preach, but it's in a worthy cause.

Indubitably, and by the time I was groupie-ing my way through the late 80s/early 90s, I was always using earplugs. (Used 'em when Beloved Ex and I married, too - he was a snorer. That didn't really work, though!) Preaching welcome. :)
